October 17th sees the re-issue of the much acclaimed 1979 Bristol Compilation album AVON CALLING…said by John Peel to be “The compilation by which all others should now be judged….truly superb, and not a bad track on it”. Some accolade to live up to! Yes indeed, and even today these tracks actually do sound superb, a testament to all those who took part in making this era into such an important part of Bristols’ musical heritage.

Released due to increasing worldwide interest, this special deluxe package features two CD’s with a forty page booklet housed in a gatefold card sleeve. CD1, the complete Avon Calling LP together with six extra bonus tracks never previously released. CD2, the Heartbeat Singles Collection 1978 – 1980, the first twelve single releases from Bristols’ first independent record label. The 40 page booklet features photos, historical artifacts, replica single sleeves, local comment, and sleeve notes by Gerard Langley.

A celebration and launch party is to be held on Sunday 30th October 2005 at Fiddlers Club, Bedminster, Bristol; where original band PRIVATE DICKS will headline, aided by special guests Neil Taylor & Johnny Klein. Also playing will be BULA BULA featuring legendary guitarist Tony Dodd, and a whole host of other local luminaries will hopefully be strutting their stuff, along with new all girl band Fi Fi Saloon following in their fathers footsteps and proving that good new music is still being made in Bristol. Tickets are £6 and doors open at 8pm.....
