Steve Street of Europeans fame and subsequent stalwart studio engineer, had collaborated with "Merv" Woolford and vocalist Jools, under the name "Affairs of the Heart" and come up with their version - blatantly commercial, even with a dance mix - this was far removed from what I'd been used to, but never the less to work it would surely be great fun.

Unfortunately sales turned out to be disappointing, but airplay all across Europe was excellent - so a good lesson was learnt! don't play with big boys unless you have enough clout to back it up! On (in their terms) such a small budget maybe this was inevitable, BUT! it was that chance, that chance that had to be taken - not a complete disaster - so no regrets, I wouldn't mind the space back in garage though!.

The lull in punk's second wave continued into 1984 and yet again something stirred again at Heartbeat, local band Fear of Darkness had come on the scene - they were good, very good, too good to pass by, but a 12" single later would again see disappointing sales for Heartbeat.

At the same time the Riot City label was also seeing falling sales - it suddenly seemed the right time to finally close the book on making records - I wasn't complaining! - seven years of Heartbeat and Riot City had been fantastic fun for me, and most of those who had passed through our door - we had achieved everything we set out to and more, so yes, this was a good time to lay it to rest and say thanks.
