Riot City Records - A History |
| Arriving in an English northern industrial town was an almost daily occurance, setting up and waiting for anyone to arrive - and when they did, mayhem! rows of punks, twelve across and ten deep would literally be clambering for merchandise!. It was madness, and a real job to keep control and inevitably it was lost at times, with the stall defences (flight cases and fire extinguishers etc) breached and subsequent loss of stock! but what an experience - the band were undergoing some kind of hero worship - just totally unexpected, and the whole thing was just pure magic. At the end of 1981 a 12" EP putting together both of Vice Squads' early singles was issued as a tour souvenir, which would be the band's final independent release - the tour actually being set up to promote the first EMI album!

While all the touring was going on Riot City did manage to release a few singles from bands we had played along side, namely
Warringtons' The Insane and ferocious speed merchants Abrasive Wheels from Leeds. A total of three singles over a whole year was never the intended output, and would prove to be a shadow of what was to come. |
